

A Voice for the African Diaspora
Nwenna Kai is a multidisciplinary storyteller, writer, and educator whose work explores creativity, justice, and healing while amplifying the voices and experiences of the global Black community.
A pioneer of the raw foods movement, she founded the Los Angeles restaurant Taste of the Goddess Cafe and has appeared on NBC, the Travel Channel, and E! Entertainment. She is also the founder of The LiveWell Movement, a multimedia wellness company that has partnered with organizations like the American Diabetes Association.
Nwenna has taught writing, literature, and cinema studies at Drexel University and the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, and in 2024 joined the full-time faculty at the Community College of Philadelphia. Her poetry has appeared in several literary journals, and she received a 2024 fellowship from the Martha’s Vineyard Institute for Creative Writing.
